Once a large village but now a town, North Petherton has a 15th-century church, St Mary’s, with a handsome Perpendicular-style tower.
This small market town has a thriving community and sits beneath the Blackdown Hills, an area of outstanding natural beauty on the Devon border.
Somerset’s county town lies along the River Tone and proudly displays its history in the Museum of Somerset, which is set in the reconstructed remains of a Norman castle.
Organisers have this week launched the biennial 10 Parishes Festival which will return to Wiveliscombe and surrounding villages this September. The visual and performing arts festival stretches over nine days and comprises artist open studios along with performance and community events.
