Berrys Coaches Somerset Itinerary

Wellington

Description

This small market town has a thriving community and sits beneath the Blackdown Hills, an area of outstanding natural beauty on the Devon border.

Wellington
On a hillside, just 3km outside of the town, the Wellington Monument is a 175ft-high obelisk that was built as a memorial to the Duke of Wellington. It can be the focal point of walks through hills cloaked in beech woodland. Back in town, the Wellington Museum has more on the Duke, as well as exhibits on the town’s wool industry.
The Somerset Emporium is where to browse more than 50 local boutique shops, housed in a former Victorian chapel, while The Pump House, in a beautifully restored building, serves Italian-style tapas for lunch. Afterwards, you can stroll around the formal gardens of Grade II-listed Wellington Park or 15-minutes’ drive away, Cothay Manor is a striking medieval house with gardens arranged in different styles along an avenue of yews.
