Location Manager, Rebecca Pearson, said: “We were based in Bristol meaning Somerset was a stone’s throw away and gave us some fabulous locations to visit.

“Wells is one of my favourite places to film because the community is so welcoming and the locations themselves are always so professional and understanding of our demands. Plus, of course, the director loved the spaces as there were so visually stunning.

“The Cathedral and The Palace gave us a great variety of spaces all within a short distance of each other and they are therefore in a number of scenes.”

Eagerly awaited, The Mirror and the Light picks up from where the hugely successful, BAFTA and Golden Globe winning first series left off in 2015. Covering the contents of the third of the Wolf Hall trilogy, it follows Thomas Cromwell (played by Mark Rylance) and his continued climb to power and wealth in the formidable shadow of Henry VIII (Damien Lewis).

Directed by seven-time BAFTA award winner Peter Kosminsky, the star-studded cast also includes Kate Phillips as Jane Seymour, Lilit Lesser as Princess Mary, Jonathan Pryce as Cardinal Wolsey, and Timothy Spall as the Duke of Norfolk.

Wells Cathedral has been described as “the most poetic of the English Cathedrals” with several unique features including the ‘scissor arches’ and the famous Wells Clock – thought to be the second oldest clock mechanism in Great Britain.
