The Burn Incident at Shepton Mallet Prison
The Burn Incident

Late summer/early autumn 2017 – Paul Toole (Guide and site manager at the time)
Towards end of the tour, enters the condemned man’s cell, to move to the execution room after.
For the first time on his tours, he tells the story of Private Lee Davis – the 3rd US serviceman to be executed (14th Dec ’43) – crimes Rape and Murder.
As LD moved from condemned cell through the hidden doorway leading to the execution room, was alleged to have said “Oh my god, I'm going to die” when he saw the gallows before becoming hysterical.

As PT says the final words before entering the execution room, he feels the pain on his hand – after ending tour looks down to find the mark – looks like a cigarette burn
Paul mentions that LD was a chain-smoker, but I have not seen a report including this
