A new working partnership between Mendip District Council and Visit Somerset plans to firmly place Mendip businesses on the visitor map.

Julie Reader-Sullivan, Group Manager of Planning and Growth, Mendip District Council, said: "Prior to coronavirus, tourism in Mendip was worth over £192 million (direct and indirect impact) and supported around 2963 FTE jobs."

Cllr Simon Carswell, Portfolio Holder for Economic Development, Mendip District Council: “2020 has been a tough year for business owners – especially for those in Retail, Hospitality and Tourism. The Council are working hard to support all businesses wherever possible and this partnership will provide essential ecommerce and a prime online presence to better promote and access all Tourism and Hospitality businesses within Mendip. Membership to the Visit Somerset platform and associated promotion will be free for all businesses within the District for the next 3 years”.

John Turner CEO for Visit Somerset "We're very pleased to be working with Mendip District Council on raising the profile on this very special part of the county. The Visitor Economy is worth £1.3 Billion to Somerset and the 6th largest GDP driver. We will be working with stakeholder groups in the region to support a united front in developing and supporting Mendip District in further supporting the Mendip region as a truly fantastic visitor destination. The partnership will also mean there is a clear offer to people considering holidays in the West of England."
