5 Year Delivery Plan
A Plan for Tourism 2006-2010
Although now out of date, the 5 year Delivery Plan is the most recent tourism planning document in existence in Somerset.
Executive Summary
Tourism is widely acknowledged as a key industry to drive forward the economy of Somerset, while underpinning the quality of life and the conservation of the many natural and cultural assets upon which it depends. There is an opportunity now for all those involved to work more effectively together on the management of Somerset as a truly successful tourism destination.
This plan provides a way forward for tourism in Somerset (including the whole of the current County of Somerset and the District of North Somerset) set out as an action plan for the five year period 2006 to 2010. Based on this it makes recommendations for a new delivery structure based on a Destination Management Organisation (DMO) for Somerset.
The plan has been drawn up through extensive consultation. This has included separate meetings with all the local authorities, individual consultation with a selection of key bodies, a survey of tourism enterprises and a number of roundtable meetings and workshops in different parts of Somerset.
