Watchet MArket House Museum

Gives an insight into the history of Watchet from prehistoric to present day, particularly the story of the harbour and its C19th use in shipping iron ore from the Brendon Hill mines. Work on a heritage trail “West Somerset’s Hidden Industrial Jewel”, a combination of the mineral line and Brendon Hill iron mines, began in 2006.

The museum contains many models and photographs of mines and the railway to Watchet from the mines. Visitors can see a video of the history of the town and can combine the museum with a visit to the nearby harbour and statue of Coleridge’s ancient mariner, said to originate from Watchet in Samuel Taylor Coleridges famous poem.
