Manor Road Community Woodland

This beautiful woodland on the outskirts of Keynsham is the perfect place for an afternoon stroll. As well as some beautifully atmospheric footpaths, all maintained by volunteers from the ‘Friend’s of Manor Road’ community group, the woodland has some fantastic views over Saltford, and out to the Kelston Roundhill, the beginning of the renowned Cotswold hills.

The woodland is part of ‘The Forest of Avon’, an initiative that aims to create a greener and healthier environment for the future – right on people’s doorsteps. Over 17 000 trees and shrubs have been planted on the 21-hectare site since 1993 with grant aid from the Forestry Commission. Most of these trees and shrubs are native broadleaves and reflect some of the species already found in the area. Heritage features within the site include traditional stone walls and the site is a haven for wildlife. Many different birds use the woodland — keep an eye open for Bullfinches and Whitethroats. If you look closely you might be lucky enough to catch some Slow Worms; a group of these beautiful legless lizards were rehomed in the woodland from the Somerdale site when work started on the new housing estate.

Manor Road is one of the best examples of new community woodland in the Forest of Avon and is very popular with local people and visitors alike. Enjoy it!
