Somerset 'Walkers Are Welcome' Schemes

The Walkers Are Welcome scheme is a national network started in 2007 that gives accreditation to towns and villages offering something special for walkers.

There are now more than 100 across the UK including six in Somerset.

Among the requirements of a Walkers Are Welcome destination are that it considers the needs of walkers in terms of accommodation, refreshment, retail, walking guides and information.

There should be a reasonable range of walks on offer which are well maintained.

There should be good public transport links and walkers should feel welcome even if they arrive with muddy boots!

Somerset and Exmoor’s Walkers Are Welcome towns and villages are Cheddar, Dunster, Keynsham, Porlock, Wiveliscombe and Nether & Over Stowey (The Stoweys) and Lynton & Lynmouth. Look out for the stickers in the pubs, shops and bed and breakfasts.

You should be able to find handy guides to the walks they have chosen to promote.
