Shooting in Somerset
The Somerset countryside is the perfect setting for shooting whether it's using an air rifle in a range, a shotgun to smash clays or paintballs to splatter your mates.
Home to our Olympic hero Ed Ling who won bronze for shooting, Somerset has something for the whole range of abilities from complete beginner to those who, like Ed, compete at the highest level.
As an outdoor activity, Clay Pigeon Shooting can benefit from a beautiful backdrop and we have plenty of those in Somerset such as the foot of the Mendips and the Vale of Taunton. It is a fun challenge for all ages, which makes it ideal for team building events and celebration parties.
Covered and floodlit rifle ranges allow for shooting in all weathers and these too cater for people who have never picked up a gun to sports men and women who like to practice regularly. Times and technology have moved on and there are electronic targets to aim for. A number of the Somerset shooting venues have shops where you can buy all the gear as well as offering a repair service.
Paintballing has been around since the 80s and is as fun a fresh as it ever was - a test of accuracy and agility. It is popular with families, friends and work colleagues. A recent addition to the armoury is the laser so if you don't fancy the pain of playing with paint, you could try laser weapons.
As a largely rural county with a proud farming heritage, it is no surprise to find Somerset has a tradition for Game Fairs and Agricultural Shows as well as pheasant and duck shooting.
