Travelling To Taunton & Taunton Car Parks
Taunton may lie in the heart of the West Country but that doesn’t mean it’s remote, or difficult to get to.
For train travellers it’s around two hours from London Paddington (sometimes more, sometimes less, depending on the number of stops) and the same from Birmingham New Street. If you’re planning a cycling holiday you should book your bike on the train in advance to ensure it arrives with you. More details from National Rail Enquiries on 08457 484950
If you’re travelling by car you should allow roughly two and a quarter hours from London, two hours from Birmingham and an hour from Cardiff. Once you’ve arrived we recommend you use either of the two park and ride facilities. There’s one at Silk Mills on the western side of Taunton and another at Taunton Gateway at the M5/A358 junction. Frequent shuttle services run from both to the town centre. Alternatively you can locate one or our town centre car parks by clicking here.
Ferry terminals at Portsmouth and Southampton are two and a half hours away and those at Poole and Plymouth roughly one hour.
Travelling by air. The regional airports at Exeter and Bristol are about 30 minutes away. There are coach services between Taunton and both Heathrow and Gatwick. Air passengers coming by rail should travel from Gatwick to Reading and change to an Exeter/Plymouth/Penzance service; from Heathrow take the coach link to Reading station.
Daily National Express coach services and local coach company Berry's run between Taunton and London Hammersmith and Victoria coach stations, both can be booked through our Visitor Centres in Taunton or Wellington.
Once in the area, we have a good network of local buses to explore and enjoy the area, consult the Traveline website for more information.
