Goodland Gardens is a centrally located park nestled between the Town Centre shopping area, the Grade I listed medieval Castle and the River Tone. The Garden links Coal Orchard, Bridge/North Street and Tangier. The park is a popular picnic and recreation spot for shoppers as well as a popular venue for local events.
Laid out in 1971, the open space takes its name from the Goodland family who played a major role in the water-borne coal trade and were heavily involved in the work of the Tone conservators who annually inspected the river to ensure that it was navigable.
Since January 2012 the gardens have been fully open to the public to enjoy with new footbridges connecting the gardens to other areas of the town. The Shed café is located in a transformed toilet block and offers a great view of the park.
