After two successful years in the South West, the Tour of Britain is back, and bigger than ever before!
The Tour of Britain is the UK’s largest professional cycling race which takes place over eight consecutive days, visiting various regions across the country.
This year the free spectator event will be racing into the South West region for two stages of racing on Thursday 17 and Friday 18 September. Having two stages of racing in one region is a first in the Tour’s history.
Stage six of the Tour of Britain will start in the Somerset town of Frome. Riders will cover 187kms passing through the Somerset Levels, The Quantocks and Exmoor National Park, before finishing in the estuary town of Bideford on the North Devon coast.
Stage seven will cover a further 159kms. Starting in the Devon market town of Hatherleigh, competitors will ride close to the edge of Dartmoor National Park. They will then race along the Devon Jurassic Coast and cross the river Axe, before pedalling over the finish line at Huish Park, the home of Yeovil Town Football Club in South Somerset.
To celebrate the Tour of Britain coming to the South West there will also be a number of events taking place along the route and at the start and finish towns in the build up to the race and on the race days.
