History of Watchet from prehistoric to present day, particularly the story of the harbour and its 19thC use in shipping iron ore from the Brendon Hill mines. Work on a heritage trail “West Somerset’s Hidden Industrial Jewel”, a combination of the mineral line and Brendon Hill iron mines, is expected to begin in 2006. Many models and photographs of mines and railway to Watchet from mines. Visitors can see a video of the history of the town and can combine the museum with a visit to the nearby harbour and statue of Coleridge’s ancient mariner said to originate from Watchet in Samuel Taylor Coleridges famous poem.
