Forde Abbey is a treasure in an area known for its outstanding beauty. Over 900 years of history are encapsulated in this elegant former Cistercian monastery and its 30 acres of award winning gardens.
The history and architectural beauty of the house with its striking interior, and the varied garden, including a mature arboretum, rockery, bog garden, working walled kitchen garden and the highest powered fountain in England, makes Forde Abbey a delightful destination for a day visit.
However, Forde Abbey is first and foremost a family home and working farm giving it an atmosphere of warmth and ease not often found in stately homes. The fruits of the estate can be sampled in the Undercroft restaurant with a wide selection of delicious homemade lunches and cakes. A gift shop, plant centre, pottery exhibition and garden trail for children add to the day.
We are a silver award winner in the Enjoy England Awards for Excellence competition and South West Tourism’s Small Visitor Attraction of the Year.
