Palmerston Fort built circa 1865 with Victorian gun emplacements. During the Second World War two gun placements were added with associated living quarters. Weapon experiments were carried out in WW2. Brean Down is SSSI for Botanical and Geological interest also a scheduled ancient monument for extensive archeology. Interpretation at base of Down and in small centre at Brean Cove cafe.

Road Directions

Nearest major road is M5. Head north up the A38 towards Bristol. After 1.5 miles take the first exit off roundabout towards Weston-super-Mare on A370. At Lympsham take first left to Brean and then follow signs for Brean
