Address:
Portishead
Portishead is magnificently situated with sweeping views of the Severn Estuary, the Welsh coastline and both Severn bridges to one side and the beautiful and scenic Gordano Valley to the other.
The picturesque lake grounds offer plenty of space for children to play freely. The location is ideal for relaxing, admiring the spectacular views or watching the cricket or bowls. This is a fabulous place to picnic; alternatively, refreshments are available from the café. Spend an afternoon on the traditional Victorian high street with a good mix of original shops and modern stores to suit all tastes.
Visit Portishead's heated open-air swimming pool from May to September or Parish Wharf leisure centre, which is open all year round.
Portishead's new marina Port Marine offers exciting opportunities to sail the upper reaches of the Bristol Channel. It houses up to 150 boats within the historic port. Well worth a visit, the work of several internationally acclaimed sculptors is on view here, including the monumental and graceful 'Angels of Portishead'.
Nearby you will find farms where the children can meet farm and more exotic animals, and superb National Trust houses and gardens.
