Crewkerne
Crewkerne is an attractive market town with many fine buildings; shops and a striking 15th-century church made from the locally quarried honey coloured ham stone.
The town's history is recounted at the Crewkerne Heritage centre. Situated in a restored grade II listed building, displays include the Saxon mint, the famous grammar school and the towns cloth making past.
Bincombe Hill just above the town has a nature trail, which provides a gentle stroll of about a mile through varied habitats with fine views across the town.
Close to the Dorset border Crewkerne is an ideal base for exploring the south coast as well as the unspoilt South Somerset countryside.
The 50 mile River Parrett Trail, following a river from source to mouth, is close by. This walk combines art in the countryside and can be walked as a series of shorter sections. For more information visit the local information centre in the town hall.
The town is noted for its art, antiques and bookshops and also has an indoor pool. This combined with tearooms, pubs, a choice of accommodation and numerous attractions make it the perfect place for a relaxing short break.
