2008 Set to be the Best Year Yet for Cycling in Somerset

SCC Chairman Alan Gloak and stage winner Nikolai Trusov

Somerset enjoyed an incredible cycling year in 2007. The Tour of Britain set the standard for every other stage to follow, the National Hill Climb Championships was a great success, and in its first year, the Exmoor Beast was voted 3rd in the UK Best Cyclosportive Awards.

The events in 2008 are getting bigger and better. The new and improved Tour of Wessex will include the cyclosportive as usual, but for the first time it will also feature a Premier Calendar Elite Race, a MTB Enduro, a MTB Trails and a cycle show.

For the younger enthusiasts there will be a new club launched on Exmoor, that will offer training and professional coaching for the road and mountain biking, and the Somerset Schools Triathlon Challenge will return to Millfield School in July.

Finally, if your New Year's Resolutions have fallen by the wayside, Everyday Cycling has some great ideas for 2008.

Happy cycling!
