Activities

Memories are made from the things we do as much as from what we see. The best way to enjoy the fantastically diverse nature of Somerset is to ‘live it’ for a while. There is a vast array of activities on offer here, many of which are not so easy to do elsewhere.

With a coastline and a host of rivers, waterways and reservoirs, it is not surprising that the County is a draw for people enjoying water sports whether it is the newer ones such as coasteering or those that have existed since the earliest times such as paddling a coracle (yes you can go on a coracle course in Somerset!).

As a rural county with spectacular ranges of hills, Somerset attracts climbers, walkers, horse riders and mountain bikers in their droves and in such a big county there is room for all of them. For those who prefer their cycling and walking at a gentler pace with fewer steep slopes what better landscape than the superb Somerset Levels to happily while away the hours?

Having the longest standard gauge heritage railway in UK, means Somerset is popular with the followers of steam trains. One of the best ways to discover the delights of the coast, countryside and quintessential English village must be from the lovingly restored West Somerset Railway carriages.
