Alfred’s Tower

Explore one of the finest and most eccentric follies in England. It was created nearly 200 years ago to commemorate the life and deeds of King Alfred the Great.

Ballands Castle

Travel to the borders of Somerset and explore the ancient woodlands that hide strange mounds. These may be the remains of a medieval motte-and-bailey castle and quarrying. This is private land, do please keep to the footpath.

Bruton Dovecote

Follow the trails up to this curious stone building and local landmark. Over 500 years old, this dovecote has over 200 pigeonholes.

Gants Mill & Garden

Breathe in the scent of fragrant flowers or enjoy the sound of the river trickling past this historic mill and garden. Most of the machinery dates from 1888 and is still used for grinding animal feed and occasionally whole-wheat flour.

Haynes International Motor Museum

No matter what your age you’ll find the car you’ve always dreamed of! This is reputedly the UK’s largest exhibition of the greatest cars from around the world.

Higher Flax Mills

Visit the historic site of one of the last surviving horsehair weavers in the world. Boyd’s Horsehair Factory still uses the original looms and techniques developed over 125 years ago. Visits by appoinjtment only. Tours for small groups are available on request.
