The Visit Somerset website was launched in April 2007 by the Somerset Tourism partnership, an organisation funded by Somerset County Council, all Somerset district councils and the South West Regional Development Agency. The site is hosted on the New Mind South West regional platform. 

In 2010, the website was re-designed and developed by web developer Mike Turner and the Visit Somerset Development Officer Robert Downes. Significant changes were made to the user experience, site map, page layouts, functionality, development, design and content migration.

In 2011 the site is set to be managed and run by Somerset's very own tourism trade organisation, the Somerset Tourism Association.
