In our drive to become the UK's number one county for cycling, Somerset has a range of events and initiatives to whet everyone's appetite. These range from racing and training to family days, school events and even cycle dating! You can also discover what is happening in general and how you can get your next bike purchase tax-free.

Get the most out of your cycling with Everyday Cycling. This scheme, led by British Cycling, aims to motivate cyclists to ride their bikes further and more often. The National Sports Foundation, Sport England, the Forestry Commission and Active Woods also support it.

Tax-free Bikes

How would you like it to purchase your brand-new bike tax-free? The Cyclescheme offers you that opportunity. It is run in strict accordance with the government's green travel plan and conforms to the requirements of the HMRC, OFT and DfT. Contact your local retailer to find out if they offer the scheme.

Cycle to Work

The national campaign called Smarter Choices run by Somerset County Council is known locally as Moving Forward. This government initiative aims to get more people using sustainable transport for travelling to and from their place of work.

Have a complaint about the state of our roads?

The CTC offers a unique website that allows users to complain about poorly surfaced roads that could have a negative effect on cyclists. Fill that Hole is a quick and easy way to highlight hazardous surfaces that local councils may be unaware of. Alternatively, call 0845 345 9155 for information relating to diesel spills, pot holes or dangerous manhole covers.
