Somerset Triathlon Challenge

Torrential rain put the brakes on the mini Tour of Britain cycling challenge, but the participants were reassured that they would see the real event on Tuesday 11 September, rain or shine.

The weather didn't dampen the spirits of the contenders or their families, who came to support them for the indoor swimming and running challenges.

The young people came together to celebrate the Tour of Britain cycle race, which will visit Somerset for five years from 2007 in the lead up to the London 2012 Olympics.

After successfully completing the triathlon, participants were presented with a certificate for their efforts along with a 'Rising to the Challenge' goody bag filled with sporty treats, including an E-ON Tour of Britain hat and TRI-UK water bottle.

Councillor Justin Robinson, Deputy Leader of Somerset County Council, said: "Well done to all the young people who completed the Triathlon.
Somerset County Council is committed to increasing the opportunities for young people to stay healthy and have fun through activities such as swimming, cycling and running.

I am sure that events like the Triathlon Challenge and the Tour of Britain will prove to be inspiration for many future Somerset athletes."
