If God was a mountain biker, then he designed Somerset as his playground. Where else can you find terrain like that of the Blackdowns, the Quantocks or Exmoor? Not only that, but these are right on your doorstep. With a host of exciting events to choose from there is no excuse not to get out there and give it a try.
Mountain biking comes in different forms. There is downhill, 4X, Cross Country and Marathon. The British Cycling website provides an introduction to all these forms of racing, as well as club and event information.
Around the county there are a number of clubs that cater for the mountain biker, including 1st Chard Wheelers, Kona UK/Paliglap and Team Zoyland.
There are events for bikers of all abilities, including a whole host of events every June in the Exmoor Walking and Cycling Festival. Staying on Exmoor, the Exmoor Explorer is a marathon that challenges the toughest riders whilst taking in some of Exmoors most breathtaking scenery.
