Country House Hotel

Ston Easton Park

Today Ston Easton Park is well renowned as being one of the best luxury hotels near Bristol, however, the house has a long and interesting history.

The original house appears to date back to Tudor times, however, the structures as they can be seen today were built around 1739 and towards the end of the 18th Century, the East and West Wings were added.

The Hippisley family made Ston Easton Park their home from 1544 and continued to live here until 1956. After the Hippisley family relinquished the property, it changed hands a number of times before it eventually fell into disrepair and narrowly avoided a demolition order. Thankfully, under the ownership of the Rees-Mogg family, the house under-went extensive restoration work to bring it back to its former glory.

The parkland surrounding the house was designed by the famous 18th Century landscape architect, Humphry Repton. Repton first visited the house in November 1792 and by March 1793, he had produced his ‘Red Book’ giving his recommendations for the landscape of the park.

The grand wrought iron gates at the entrance to the house date back to the 18th Century and were originally made for a country house in Kent, called Merstham. The gates were installed at Ston Easton Park in 1981, a year before it opened in 1982, soon after it lauched as one of the more frequented hotels in Well, Somerset.

The house is bursting with antique furniture and fine art collections and The Library still contains its original mahogany bookcases. As our guests, you are encouraged to explore the house and its many ‘hidden treasures’ including one of England’s earliest surviving Print Rooms and the superb Saloon – a beautiful and unique room which sets Ston Easton Park aside from other luxury hotels in Somerset. Follow the ancient stone staircase and discover the beautifully preserved servants’ quarters and the Edwardian kitchen and you will feel as though you have stepped into a page of a Jane Austen novel or onto the set of Downton Abbey.

Ston Easton is steeped in wonderful history, and that lends a romanticism to the estate, as such we are proud to hold many weddings here. The estate is available for exclusive use so our weddings guests can enjoy private use of the house and gardens on their special day. With such stately rooms and gardens many businesses approach us to use the rooms and grounds for product launches and presentations. It's always busy at Ston Easton Park, we hold a huge variety of special events in Somerset and provide many breaks and special offers. We would be remiss not to mention our incredible Victorian kitchen and the incredible food that they produce daily for our restaurant and its visitors, be they residents or just guests stopping by for a bite to eat.
